Concrete pilings are roughly twice the price of wood pilings and provide more rigidity to the structures above which become more important as the building gets taller and catches more wind, particularly where there are no wind breaks between buildings such as on the water. In this case we're completely exposed to winds from the south and west on a 4 story building. The wood pilings are for additional support under the swimming pool.
