Notice how you don't really notice cables.  Your eye focuses on the shoreline and water view.  Now imagine how it would look sitting here enjoying your view through typical wooden picket railing.  The view would be totally ruined.

This powder coated aluminum railing is a good choice for exterior retaining wall guard railing.

Here's a typical example of wood railing which blocks the view when seated and causes your eyes to focus on the rail instead of the view.  Not a calming effect.
